Sharp teams-up with Avnet Embedded at vertical shows

High brightness displays for e-kiosk applications and vending machines are in the focus of Sharp's presentation at the stand of Avnet Embedded during Screenmedia EXPO (London, UK, May 18/19 and Digital Signage EXPO (Essen, Germany, May 24-26).

Hamburg, 03 May 2011 – A brightness of 1,000 cd/m² and more is necessary for displays to cope with bright daylight, when built in e-kiosks and vending machines positioned outdoors. On gloomy, rainy days, half of the display brightness is more than enough to render easy to read image content and at nights 200 cd/m² and less not only will do but is essential not to blind customers. Sharp's industrial grade high brightness LCDs with LED backlight combine the backlight power needed with the flexibility to control display brightness for a brilliant image performance under the ever changing ambient light conditions, typically found with e-kiosk solutions and vending machines. The latest high brightness models even have the driving unit for Pulse Width Modulated dimming already on board, facilitating the design-in for customers. Furthermore, extended operating temperatures from -20°C up to 60°C ensure functionality of the display as human-machine-interface (HMI) even under harsh outdoor climate conditions.
Together with Avnet Embedded Sharp presents a selection of high brightness displays at the Screenmedia Expo, taking place in London, Uk, May 18/19 and at the Digital Signage Expo in Essen, Germany, May 24-26. "Thanks to the cooperation with Sharp we are able to actually show the effect of high brightness displays in an e-kiosk application equipped with several 19 inch TFT LCD type LQ190E1LX51", explains Mats Sjöbrand, director of Avnet Embedded North Europe and marketing director of displays. Sharp on the other hand benefits from additional visibility. "Co-exhibiting at vertical trade shows with Avnet Embedded in London and Essen provides an excellent opportunity to specifically address the segment of self-service terminal manufactures with our display solutions", says Fabio Perfetti, European Distribution Manager at Sharp Microelectronics Europe.
In addition to the high brightness LCD modules, also an interactive information terminal solution will be shown based on a 60 inch LCD HD monitor (type PN-L601B) equipped with an integrated infrared touch system.
