New 16:9 TFT-LCDs for industrial handhelds

New 4.3 inch high-brightness displays from Sharp are among the most feature-rich wide-aspect displays available

Hamburg, July 09, 2007 – Sharp Microelectronics introduces two new 4.3-inch industrial TFT LCD panels (type LQ043T1DG01 and LQ043T1DG02) particularly designed for mobile and industrial handheld applications. The high brightness of up to 600 cd/m², the anti glare coating and an extended temperature range of -10°C to +70°C ensure an excellent readability even under ruggedized outdoor and changing ambient light conditions. Also 16 million colours and a 300:1 contrast ratio substantially contribute to the high image quality of the two new displays. In addition, the integrates a touch functionality facilitating the design of interactive industrial handhelds. Target applications for both displays are for example portable medical equipment, handheld barcode and RFID readers, GPS/navigation, home automation control, test and measurement equipment as well as security systems.

"Wide screen format panels offer the advantage actually displaying larger amounts of data, e.g. on oscilloscopes or other test and measurement devices. Furthermore, the additional display area can be used for dynamic operating menus and therefore improved ergonomics."

High integration reducing the part count and intensive testing against the demanding industrial specifications ensure easy design-in as well as high quality and reliability. In this way Sharp is directly supporting partners to shorten time-to-market cycles and reduce development cost.

The LQ043T1DG01 and the LQ043T1DG02 are the latest members of Sharp's small sized TFT LCD line-up for industrial portable applications. It comprises 15 different RoHS compliant displays ranging from 2.2 to 4.3 inches screen size. Various models are equipped with different technologies e.g. transflective types, so Sharp can offer suitable display solutions for virtually every industrial handheld device.
