Sharp sets benchmark for sensitivity of CCDs for security cameras
With 3,200 mV the new CCD sensors RJ2311CA0PB and RJ2321CA0PB feature the highest sensitivity currently available on the market enabling security cameras to render clear images even under poor ambient light conditions.
Hamburg, 5 May 2008 – Introducing the two new CCD sensors Sharp again raises the benchmark for high performance imaging devices. Both CCD sensors - type RJ2311CA0PB and RJ2321CA0PB - feature a sensitive of 3,200 mV which is the highest currently available on the market for security camera CCDs. Thanks to Sharp's proprietary micro-finishing technology which derives from experience of higher resolution compact digital cameras, the collecting incident light ratio and photoelectric conversion efficiency has been significantly improved, resulting in approximately 1.6 times higher sensitivity compared to previous models. In addition, these CCDs are able to obtain higher quality images by reducing the smear ratio to a level of -130db, minimizing smear effects which occur through intense light, such as headlights at night. Furthermore, the increased level of the saturation voltage to 1,200 mV ensures high image dynamics also enhancing the light/dark contrast. Thanks to their industry leading characteristics the new CCDs sensors are predestined for security camera systems to render clear images even under poor light conditions as they occur at night. This is essential for 24h surveillance e.g. of traffic, public spaces and the outside of building requiring special protection.
Both sensors have an optical format of 1/3 whereas the RJ2311CA0PB has a resolution of 270,000 pixel providing a NTSC signal while the RJ2321CA0PB delivers a PAL signal with a resolutions of 320,000 pixel.
Availability
Samples of the new RJ2311CA0PB and RJ2321CA0PB are available immediately from Sharp sales offices and distribution partners in Europe. In addition Sharp provides also high-performance CCD peripheral ICs and system LSIs for signal processing, and has actively promoted the development of a wide variety of system solutions for higher-quality cameras.
